Contact Drill : Contact Drill 01

Drill Explanation:

Players work in groups of five.

Drill starts between Gate. (2 Cones)

Ball carrier takes ball into contact and drives the pad holder back until communication comes from support players to hit the ground.

Support players clean the contact area by taking out /driving back the pad holder.

Ball is presented to fourth support player who gathers ball and takes it into next contact point.

Next contact point is cleared. Ball is presented to acting 9 who releases attacking line.

Attacking line attack defending three players.

Note : Communication is key. Players to take contact on own terms, hitting from low to high with a strong base.

Objective:

Clean Contact Area and Produce Quick Ball

Equipment:

1 Ball, 5 Contact Shields, 2 Cones

Key Factors / Coaching Points:

- Communication by support players telling the ball carrier what to do. Example, go to ground.
- Ball carrier takes contact on own terms from low to high with a strong base.
- Keep chin off the chest and eyes open.
- Keep back / spine parallel to floor.
- Support players clean contact area by binding on each other from a strong low position to high. Keeping shoulders above hips.
- Feet position of ball carrier in contact. Good strong base needed.
- Footwork before contact.
- Move the pad holder with the use of good footwork.
- Identify a weak area to hit / take contact
