Within this section you will find a number of Handling / Skills drills that will aim to improve your players ability to handle the ball. You will find a variety of drills that will challenge players of all abilities. Every rugby player needs good Handling Skills. The ability to catch and pass the ball is a vital part of a successful team.

Rugby Handling Drills

Passing

- Hold ball in both hands.
- Pass ball to target area set by receiver.
- Control the speed of the pass with your hands / wrists.
- Follow through in direction of the pass.
- Run straight.
- Eyes on target.
- Pass the ball at chest height
- After pass completion, support

.....Common errors while Passing

- Positioning of hands
- Not following through pass
- Not passing to target area
- Weak elevation of pass
- Lifting head too early
- Not focusing on target area

Receiving

-Get into position
- Run at space / Angle
- Scan defensive line (eyes up)
- Set a target with hands for the passer
- Extend hands out early
- Keep eyes on ball
- Communicate

.....Common errors while receiving

- No target set
- Eyes not on ball
- Arms not extended
- Lack of communication
- Too flat

Remember it's important to provide a variety of activities that will keep your audience focused and interested.
